That's even worse than my own personal bugbear, people who tag their Ancillary Justice fic m/f or f/f. NO. There is an "other" tag in the pairings field for a reason. It is for when "male" or "female" is not the appropriate term for one or more characters in the pairing, AS IS THE CASE WITH EVERY SHIP IN THIS FANDOM SO FAR, ARGH.

It seems to happen in a bunch of fandoms, but it's a particularly big problem in Homestuck, in which 1) most of the characters are either bi or gay, so that if your fic's canon-compliant, then sure, technically there are lesbians in there, and 2) the fandom grew up on Tumblr and as such does not tag in ways that make sense on AO3.
