Homestuck update.

snarpBad things should and will happen to all of you people.
Aranea didn't even need to go grimdark to do evil crap! She just had to hang out with Vriska for a while. Good work, Vriska, you've insidiously destroyed the lifedeath of yet another person you think of as your friend!
In the panel showing the mind-controlled trolls, there's only one of everyone else, but three of Kankri "Smug Misogynist Shithead" Vantas. What proportion of your army is just this one guy, ladies? And how often do you make him beat himself up or make out with himself? Actually, I'm going to pretend that Vriska and Meenah make their toy soldiers kiss and square-dance and stuff when they're bored, and Aranea goes along with it in her newfound evil.
Is this real insight into the Condesce's possessiveness of Jane, or red herring insight? Either way, it is adorable in the disturbing and awful way which characterizes so much of Homestuck.
In conclusion, these ghosts are all definitely doomed, and they deserve it for putting Vriska in charge.
John's reaction to all of this is characteristically Johnlike:
John and Tavros are really similar, in that they each have a pretty well-calibrated moral compass, but they only kind of passively reprove villainy unless they can see it negatively affecting their friends. Roxy*, Terezi, Karkat, and Dave are the ones who actively flip out about stuff being wrong.
John's also really similar to Gon, the hero of Hunter x Hunter, who's this guy who's good-hearted but whose general attitude towards life is: "Oh, hey, I guess this is sort of evil and self-destructive and generally a terrible idea for all in my general vicinity - but it's really cool!" And "Killua and Kurapika are my pals, I can let a few cold-blooded murders slide!"
I guess John still has time in this scene to prove me wrong about this. Maybe he's had some personal growth off-panel! Take a stand, John! Get dream-murdered by Meenah again, John!
* Roxy is the most classically heroic of the heroes at this point. Without being railroaded into it by game stuff (like Jade) and while hung-over, she chose to risk her life rescuing a large number of people she doesn't know well. She put the lives of a bunch of strangers over those of herself and her friends, even though they weren't making it easy for her, she wasn't getting any support or praise for it, and some of them had tried to hurt her in the past. Roxy is best.

Date: 2013-02-26 11:30 pm (UTC)Combined with Meenah's "mind control for the greater good is totes cool w/ me" line, it certainly looks like it's intended to be a true parallel to what's just happened with the Condesce and Jane and Jade. Which does make me wonder if the Condesce's motivations at this stage could be about outcomes she considers best for everybody rather than things that benefit only herself (or only LE).
