2) I want to hit the VA and I don't know why. I'm trying to figure out if he represents an genuine Obnoxious Type common in Japan, and I'm reacting to that; or if it's just that sometimes I want to hit people.

If it helps, I re-watched the first four episodes of Mushishi last night because I was curious and the VA does come off as a little smarmy. But Mushishi tends to make me all tranquil and sleepy so I don't notice much.
