Some scion of Hell has anticipated your presence tonight. Oh, they let you into the ball. But whenever you head towards the Milton Suite, goat demons stuffed into dinner attire block your way.
Is your aunt beyond those brass and mahogany doors? You must know. You buttonhole a drunk young thing and convince her that the real ball is happening upstairs past the archive. Five minutes later, the goat demons rush off to extract her. You head to the Milton Suite.
Your aunt is draped over a grand piano and a deviless. They are singing something very detailed about certain aspects of love. Your aunt is doubtless lacking a soul, but that hasn't slowed down her wilder side. She winks and raises a pint glass of gin at you. But there's something behind her eyes: something cold and dead and afraid. You need to get her out of here.
(Inconvenienced by Your Aunt has increased to 7!)

The mysteries of the world, #2.
Jun. 28th, 2010 12:47 amI wonder why the Washington Post crashes my browser more frequently than Echo Bazaar.
Echo Bazaar eats my brain.
May. 26th, 2010 09:02 pmIt's unusual for a game I only play a few minutes at a time to do that, but Echo Bazaar has managed.
How do I get into the Forgotten Quarter? My Ambition requires this, but the game is not inclueing me sufficiently.

1) I have been inadvertently elected to the state legislature, but do not know what I am doing; fortunately, my mom has made me a cheat sheet. Fumbling with it, I mentally promise my clearly-confused constituents that I will do better next time - I'd forgotten about the session, because I'd just come from
2) Visiting the Smoking Marsh, where a dense yellow-green mist covers everything most of the year. The marsh is very small, and all of it is visible from a wooden observation tower built by the entrance. I've been here before, and remember telling myself, "next time I'll remember to bring a tripod for the camera." I didn't, though. I hadn't even planned to be here, because I am
3) Anita Blake, and had crashed my stolen spaceship in the vicinity after doing battle with an enemy ship. The surface of the earth is under attack by octopus-like creatures who live deep beneath it, called the Uneasy Men. They build spaceships and attack us with them intermittently - some environmental variable makes it difficult for them to reach the surface very often, but we have not learned to predict it, and never know when an attack will come, and how big a fleet they may push through.
We haven't learned yet to build ships ourselves. We steal them from the Uneasy Men. In my capacity as Anita Blake, I stole the first one several years ago, but have since retired from space battle to concentrate on my career as Batman. But my current Robin, of whose costume I did not approve because it looked kind of like the Tick's and had weird little funguslike protuberences coming out of it for no reason, has been killed by the Uneasy Men, and I must exact vengeance.
However, I have removed my heart and placed it in a casket hidden deep in the mountains to make myself cruel enough to be an effective warrior - and there is evidence that the Uneasy Men know where it is. The mad scientist who used to be my partner is confident that we can protect the place if it sees any ships going there. Just as he is telling me this, an alert sounds. An unidentified ship is quickly approaching my heart.
We take off to defend it, but we are tricked, and the first ship is just a feint. A second one lands near where my heart is hidden while we are still engaged, and a third, bigger than I have ever seen before, appears before us. We manage to defeat the huge ship, but we cannot risk going back to where my heart was to see if they have really found it. Digging at the place may only tell them where it was, if they didn't know exactly already. We can only wait to see what will happen to me.
4) I go to clean the kitchen, but the garbage disposal is broken and the sink's all clogged. Crap.
