Apparently this happened a while ago and I didn't know about it, but: Daniel Keys Moran's put up all three of his Tales of the Continuing Time books for download here. You should read them! They're really good, dense cyberpunk/sci-fi, with worldbuilding at that insane level of complexity you only get when the writer's been working on something forever, and has worked out hundreds of years of history that never even made it into the books.
Kind of similar to Darkover! Except that though Moran had planned to make the series 33 books long, he's been working on it since the 80s and has only finished three of them. (In 2007 he posted to say he planned to re-write a draft of number four at some point, but I have no idea if this intention still stands.)
I'd recommend starting with the second one, The Long Run - I don't really think Emerald Eyes is necessary to understand it, and EE is grim enough that it might feel like kind of a slog if you're not already invested in the characters. Also, there's some gross stuff in there.
