I'm including Lapis and Jasper. Lapis taught him to be suspicious of his loved ones' motives. A few episodes later, he sneaked Rose's video out of the house to watch with Sadie. Establishing boundaries there was a good thing, but the mistrust fed unpleasantly into what he learned from Jasper, which was: that he can't be good enough if he can't be Rose. A couple episodes after meeting her, he first worried out loud that the Gems resented him for not being her.
Even after Pearl's meltdown in Rose's Scabbard, he hadn't wanted to say that. His meltdown in Keystone Hotel and his line in the extended theme song confirm that he's internalized that fear: "I will fight to be everything that everybody wants me to be when I'm grown!"
