The explanation for the website reads like the label on a particularly good can of crack. I don't know if I should succumb and find my dwarf-related sadistic side. The screenshots are funnier than they should be, though. ;)

Does it, like, mean a splint armor or a bone splint? Do the dwarves realize opal is one of the softest gemstones? Someone is menacing in their...wooden...armor (or cast!) pretty facetiously.

It's a splint in the sense that you strap it on a broken arm until it heals. The spikes are thus slightly counterproductive.
