I'm a little over halfway through, and I think I may prefer the Sharon Shinn version with the cyborgs. I keep wishing Rochester would undergo explosive decompression.

Kate Beaton pretty much expresses my entire opinion on the Brontës. I was warned off the Shinn ages ago so cannot speak to it.

Surprisingly, despite all of the problems I had with it, and there were so, so, so many, I liked Jane Eyre...and this makes me feel sorta bad about myself, because really, I shouldn't, but I did like Jane's narrative voice a lot, even all of the self-righteous martyr parts.

Why on earth shouldn't you like it?

It was pretty awesome when I was 12-14, but I haven't re-read it since. :P I do plan on catching the recent film to see if it holds up that way.
