If there was an alien race, and its knowledge of earth was drawn entirely from ads on ESPN, it would assume that humans reproduced by playing football, drinking beer, or shaving, and that women were some sort of sterile drone gender and/or separate symbiotic species. This may have been Larry Niven's inspiration for the Puppeteers.

I just heard a sort of gradually-building yanking sound out there that probably has to do with the puppy and the tablecloth. I refuse to go check, though.

I think that is a fairly accurate assessment of the commercials on ESPN. I am actually starting to get really annoyed at commercials aimed at men. They pretty much assume that all men think women suck and that they don't want to be around them ever. Which is obviously not true. I just wonder what it is about that that makes it so appealing to advertisers?
