2) Is there a clear cheapest option in importing Japanese-language manga to the US? Because I unfortunately don't expect to see Silver Diamond and tactics getting picked up again very soon.

I wish I had the ability to read Japanese with even a modicum of accuracy, because I'm completely reliant on whether or not a scanlation team picks Silver Diamond up again. :\ Hopefully it's still well loved enough to garner attention.

If you tell me what you want, I can check at Book Off and see if they have any used copies and send them to you. (Their stuff is between $1-3 for small size and $1-5 for large size, shipping would be media mail, so fairly cheap.)

As for actually ordering from Japan, probably the cheapest is to order from Amazon and have it shipped to someone in Japan (especially if you order enough to get free shipping), who can then ship it to you at slow-boat rates. (Amazon's own international shipping is ridiculously expensive.)

:( I've been buying Tactics from Yes Asia (slow but free delivery if you order over a certain amount) because Carlsen Manga dropped the series in Germany in 2007 already. Grr...

Well, If you should by any chance also read German, then Carlsen Manga have been releasing Silver Diamond for quite a while now - they're on volume 17. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a French version too.
