You know the XKCD guy and his issues with velociraptors? I still automatically vet every structure I come across for its ability to protect me from Threadfall. When I'm stressed out I frequently move to the optimal Thread-safety point.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh! Me too! Only stone! I swore, at the tender age of 11 that I would only build my house out of stone, because, you never know...

....it shames me that my current abode is wood and should a malevolent comet come near bearing the silvery, voraciousness of Thread, the rabbit, the cat, and the significant other will all most likely die because I haven't taught my telepathic-genetically-altered-dragon-who-was-formally-a-little-bitty-lizard to take more than one person Between. Oh well?

It's slightly stressful to contemplate my current residence, because I don't know what sort of material the roofing's made from.

I think I favor clay-tile roofing just because I assume it's impervious to Thread.

I actually think clay-tile roofing is probably Thread-proof as well. I wonder if it ever came up in any of the Pern novels? I'm curious, but I don't want my childhood ruined, I keep waffling about re-reading those books.

I don't remember how old I was when I read those books the first time, but I do remember a couple of things I thought:

"Did... did he just rape her? And now she's all like, woo, thanks, I needed that? At whatever my tender age is I lack the relevant experience to say this definitively, but I don't think women work like that."

"I cannot come up with an astronomical model that accounts for this at all, and this bothers me more than many of the other things that blatantly make no sense."
