I think one of the reasons I felt more in control of my life in Japan was that my feet touched the frigging floor when sitting in the frigging chairs there.

Photo of a pair of feet hovering several inches above the carpet, pantcuffs rolled up quite a bit, dense black leg hair left unshaved for many moons.

Where do you even buy a footrest? Maybe I should ask the shop teacher to help me make one.

Office supply stores. Or Amazon. I got mine from a place called The Better Back Store. I went there for a chair. I tried out chairs. Then the saleswoman said "Let me just put this under your feet" and I said "aaah". Paid too much for a block of wood on a bent wire, but it was worth it.
