Sad thing.

I saw this ad on a message board while looking up "cooked broccoli refrigerator":

An ad banner with a disturbing image of an unhappy-looking, overly-muscled man, saying in large type 'BUY STEROIDS'

It's not a joke; it leads to this page selling "the only steroid-shopping guide you'll ever need! Find anything you want to achieve the ideal physique, saving money and not getting caught!"

I had not really been aware of what body image issues looked like for guys. Marvel and DC have a lot to answer for.

I read a lot of bodybuilding and general fat loss (as opposed to weight loss, and they will rant on cue about the difference between losing weight, i.e. muscle as well as fat, and just losing fat) blogs by men and women.

It's fascinating how there's this narrow strip of relatively sensible advice, and then if you veer just a little to one side, there's the woo-woo amateur psychology/astrology/naturopathy/reiki/visualisation crowd, and if you wobble over to the other side of the sanity strip, there you are with the 'roids.

Fun fact: apparently you can lose unbelievable (possibly literally) amounts of fat with something called an E/C/A stack. That's ephedra, caffeine, and aspirin. The caffeine is a metabolism booster, the ephedra is even more of a metabolism booster, and they didn't actually say what the aspirin's for, but I presume to thin your blood so the ephedra won't give you a STROKE, which it WILL ANYWAY, which is why doing that is ILLEGAL.

This is the crowd that firmly believes that if a drug works, the government will make it illegal.
