I have been doing a temp job, which will end tomorrow. I have considered calling in snippy, but have told myself that if I go, the money will be put towards a moderately costly rice cooker; in this manner I have convinced myself.

I antagonized one of my co-workers, through means I could identify very specifically but choose not to - they were not intentional and are not flattering to her. She behaved badly from the beginning, but got worse this week, when she received an unexpected and unwanted transfer to another division. The job is a federal government one, and apparently it is difficult to just fire people; I suspect that I may have witnessed one of the results of this.

After a series of increasingly bizarre attempts to pick a fight with me, today she went to exciting new lengths. She stole some paperwork, hid it for several hours, then caused it to magically reappear at the end of the day as I was saying goodbye to the supervisor, scolding me loudly for having left it in the copier.

The conversation I'd been having with the supervisor had been about her habits, and had consisted in large part of the supervisor saying things to the general effect of, "Thank you for not killing her."

Following her flounce from the room, I said to the supervisor, "I don't remember having that over by the copier." The supervisor said, "Yeah, I don't think you did, either." Upon examination, I discovered that she had gone slightly awry of her apparent purpose by having also "found" some papers of the supervisor's which had been sitting near mine, but with which I had no involvement.

This sort of scene is more exciting in YA novels and manga. Here it was just irritating; I was sort of standing there and looking at the woman and thinking, "I wish she would express her fantasies through prose rather than theatre; I would be able to do paperwork so much more efficiently." I fear that this thought process may disqualify me from ever becoming a shounen hero.

You might still be a shonen hero if this is the part of the manga where you suffer before discovering your True Awesomeness (TM), afterwhich, they turn into a biomorphy robot monster ninja, and you beat them up, possibly leveling the building in the process.

And yeah, govt. jobs are hard to get fired from- they usually transfer folks or "lay off" which then means they get first dibs on the next similar job that opens up.

Even when I was in middle school, I was under the impression that this sort of behavior should be left in middle school, and I am continually unpleasantly surprised every time I find out it isn't.

Wow. I didn't think that sort of stuff happened except in manga and YA novels.

At least you are leaving? And you shall get a rice cooker?
