I really do like how Carey portrays female sexuality in a very positive light and this book was no exception in that sense, but I really did think this book was kind of... boring? Well, no, that's not the right word either. It was just very vanilla -- at first I thought it was the lack of BDSM but then I realized, no, it was really the lack of well-developed antagonists. There's usually push and pull between the protagonists and antagonists and a part of me wonders if she used it all up when she created Melisande because let's face it, Melisande can be a very tough act to follow.

(I'm also 99.9% sure Raphael will be the villain of the third and final book in this trilogy.)

On the other hand, I really loved Snow Tiger.
