I fear to read the Swanwick book because people keep saying that. "It's awesome! But it will break your heart."

It should have been awesome! But these people just wrote a book about robot dragons and then, like, didn't give them any dialog. The book kind of fails the Robot-Dragon-Slash variant of the Bechdel test (it's a very specific variant, not often applied), in that the robot dragons only ever talk about guys' relationships with other guys. THEY ARE ROBOT DRAGONS, they should be talking about like destruction.
