My mom is like this. Once I was keeping a item of clothing for a friend (whom she hadn't met) and she sniffed it out through a closed closet door and the bag it was kept in.

My dad on the other hand is vastly lacking in both sense of smell and taste buds, so my sister and I sort of evened out (she is normal tending to not so sensitive, I'm normal tending to sensitive but not easily bothered).
