Having previously opened his present from me early, today, a few feet away from me, he initiated the following two conversations with Mom:
Dad: So did you order stuff online today? For Internet Monday, or whatever it's called?
Mom: Yes. I've pretty much got my shopping done.
Dad, checking his email three minutes later, having apparently forgotten entirely about the earlier conversation: Honey, did you order some sort of hard drive on Amazon today.
Mom: ...No. No. That was a thing, for the car, that's got memory, and...
Dad: No, the email here says "external hard drive."
Mom, carefully looking straight ahead, and not in my direction: I did not order an external hard drive.
Dad: No, it's right here!
Me: So I guess I'm getting an external hard drive.
Dad: What?
Mom: Yes.
