Leaving this afternoon

This afternoon we will leave to drive to Cincinnati, and early tomorrow morning I will get on the plane to return to Japan, where I will have a full-time, salaried, grown-up-type job for the first time.

I have a ring that I wore a lot in Okazaki. The idea was that if I was feeling stressed during class, my hands would automatically fiddle with the ring, rather than with my hair. (Fiddling is bad for your hair. Unless you are Charlie Daniels, whose beard is full and lustrous.) I haven’t worn it since I got back; I thought it was in my jewelry box in my room. An hour ago I found it sitting patiently in the middle of the living room floor, as if someone had just then dropped it there.
