A Japanese grocery store! It's about the size of my hat, but it's got a really good selection of miso, my preferred brand of instant dashi, and an okay selection of loose tea and niboshi. I've been looking for akadashi miso and niboshi forever, and these guys actually had more than one kind of each.

So this is useful to know. Their azuki beans were a little overpriced, but otherwise I have no complaints.

You know, I must have passed that place a dozen times, but it's always in the evening (going out to eat, which is the main reason we trek over to Bethesda) and so always closed.

Maybe I'll have to try a shopping trip there in the daylight. How were they on sweets?

Wheee -- I've been meaning to check that place out, but have never gotten around to it since Hana downtown is a lot more convenient for me unless I'm heading out to Bethesda anyway for something, which rarely happens. Did you happen to notice if they have any fresh aburage? Or any sorts of drugstore stuff and toiletries? Hana is strictly groceries, and while I've found internet sources for my favorite bath salts and Salonpas stuff, it'd be nice to be able to get them closer to home -- I used to get them at Nani-wa but they're gone now, alas.

(Cho, wanna plan a joint expedition out there? Even if they end up not having much of what I'm looking for, visiting and noshing on a little sushi is more than enough to keep the trip from being a waste! And if they don't have what you want in the way of sweets, I need to drag you to Hana sometime -- they have a good range of candies and cookies, Pocky, etc. and usually have a bunch of different mochi treats and little cream puffs and such in the fridge case.)

*nods* And by "fresh", I really just mean the big refrigerated bags, because in my experience the tiny sorts of grocers usually only have it in little cans. Which are still nice to keep on the shelf for those times when you just randomly HAVE to make a plateful of inarizushi to snack on in the middle of the night, but are...not so useful or cost-effective if you want to make a really huge batch.
