Anxiety attack!

Oh, god. I didn't realize that the new Vorkosigan book (CryoBurn? Cryoburn? CrYoBuRn?) was coming out in November. November of this year, the year that is going on right now.

I am so terrified that it's going to suck. It'll probably have crappy female characters, or fucked-up ideas about gay guys, or Bujold's Terrifying Thoughts On RaceFail. Maybe all of the above plus pedophilia. And Aral's going to die, and then Mark's probably going to die for good measure because my heart will not be broken enough.

I'm not emotionally prepared for this yet. I need to come up with, like, a regimen. Maybe reread YuYu Hakusho over and over the rest of the year or something. Throw some Kare Kano in there. I don't know.

Oh dear, me too. Especially fear of Bujold's Terrifying Thoughts on RaceFail. (And Aral should never die, dammit.)

I'm betting on Ivan Gets Hitched, myself.

Have beenreading YYH. WTH ONLY GUYS GET POWERS FROM THE DEMON HOLE????

This may be when the awe-tastic crack stops overpowering everything else...

(Also, why is new onslaught of boy heroes so...dull? Previous entrants had a much higher entertainment value!)

A coping regimen? Hmmmm. Well, I've never seen LMB anyplace where I hang out, so I simply don't believe she exists. Works for me!

I remember that she initially defended Patricia Wrede's Mammothfail, and then her latest fantasy series was unbelievably boring. But there hasn't been anything else, right? I mean, we've still got a *shot* that LMB can still write Vorkosigans, right?

I didn't think her romance fantasy series was as good as her science fiction or her other fantasy series, but it wasn't awful in any sense; it just didn't live up to the very high expectations I have specifically for Bujold's craft. And I did enjoy the series more with each book; clearly YMMV. It would never in a million years occur to me to take it as some kind of sign that her writing skills had deteriorated, or that her moral politics had changed into something that would offend me. I'm totally excited about Cryoburn, no qualifiers. It's a happy place to be!

Last year, I was forced to reread fucking Orson Scott Card's genocide apologia and discuss it with a class full of people who agreed that a book about The Innocent Killer is the best material EVAR for a group of people known for their volatile emotional states, tendencies towards self-pity, and feelings of isolation and persecution. (Oh, and have it repeatedly suggested to me that the only reason I might dislike that revolting book is because of Card's vocal stance against marriage equality, even though I've hated it since the first time I read it, a couple of years before Card started advocating discrimination against gay people.) Anyhoo, I think it made me feel a little bit more grateful than usual for the humanism underpinning all of of Bujold's writing.
