Kratom prattle.

The samples I ordered showed up, so I now have some new kinds of kratom to experiment with. Last night my visual focus was pretty much shot - I had simply looked at too many little cars - and I decided to take a teaspoon of red Indonesian. Of the kinds I've got, that one's supposed to be the least likely to keep you awake.

It felt pretty pleasant, and I think it did help my visual focus, given that I managed to finish a book without completely wearing myself out. I didn't need a sleeping pill last night, either. I'm calling it a success, though it's not something I'd take before six PM.

This morning I tried a teaspoon of green-veined Thai kratom mixed with a couple spoonfuls of applesauce. There was none of the warm-and-fuzzy sensation, but it woke me up nicely, and I got a decent amount done in the early part of the day.

A little before noon, though, I got really, really groggy. It was a weird sensation, in that I felt I needed to shut my eyes and lie down, and didn't want to get up once I'd done so, but also couldn't really get into more than a light doze.

After about an hour of semi-sleeping I got up to do some cooking. I still felt kind of bleary, but there was no motor impairment like I get from Effexor or "real" sleepiness, and my visual focus was fine.

Around six o'clock we had company over and I was still too sleepy to communicate very well, so I took another teaspoon, this time of Maeng Da, which is ostensibly the most energizing sort of kratom. This immediately made me extremely sleepy. Again, none of the pleasant feeling I got from the red-veined Indonesian; just difficulty keeping my eyes open. I didn't want to fall asleep again, so I made myself read for a while to try and wake myself up. My vision was fortunately still fine.

At eight I was still feeling out of it, and since I've got stuff I want to do tonight and don't need to get up early tomorrow, I decided to try another teaspoon of Thai. (Three times a day feels like a little much, yeah, but a teaspoon's not a big dose of this stuff.) As before, this woke me up; I feel pretty decent right now, as you might surmise from my having written this long post. A little too hyper to focus well on doing anything more important, however, which somewhat defeats the purpose; I just babbled a lot at Mom about my feelings about the Citizens United decision.
