We fortunately were not swept away by a tornado.

We sat downstairs with five panicking animals and two flashlights for an hour, and afterwards came into town to the office, having ascertained that there was electricity here. I put Nixon the Cat under a laundry basket, to keep her from finding any exciting new places to urinate - she's not usually allowed in the basement. Her new environment actually did not bother her as long as I was next to the basket.

The Saint Bernard, however, found every aspect of this experience disturbing; I had to spend about half an hour straight petting her, to keep her from dashing back and forth across the room and freaking out the other animals. She was in a complete panic.

Once the storm passed, the other two dogs decided that they quite liked the basement, and resented being asked to come back upstairs. One lumbered up, looked around the dark living room critically, and trotted back down.

In conclusion, we're about to go home, and I was totally right to buy those D.light solar flashlights off Amazon and just leave them sitting in the windows, because they were the only flashlights we could find.
