To be clear, I'm not crediting her with the shift in tone, either.
What interests me though is the number of people who are older kids and youngish adults right now making fics, fanarts, OCs and webcomics, who've grown up with like, a rough awareness moulded by some combo of direct life experience and shit like tumblr SJ (which is a pretty direct follow-on from all that earlier stuff) but maybe not taken the explicit forms of "theory-heavy vitriol-powered argument" particularly deeply to heart, who aren't so much fetishizing the current "media like I read when I grew up, but tailored to ME or that reflects my political sensibilities!" trend as just kind of making fun things that are not monolithic, regressive *or* self-obsessed. And who're very into stuff like SU or Homestuck and the like, and are just now in their "Awkward new artist/writer" phases.
What I'm saying is, I think that's the real payoff here. Give it another couple years to marinate.
