Where does one acquire a good, inexpensive single-note vanilla scent?

Personally, I would buy a vanilla bean. I don't trust any vendor I've tried.

All I can think of is Safeway, in the spices aisle.

I'm pretty sure you've already rejected that for reasons I am utterly ignorant of.

(What is unsuitable about vanilla extract, by the bye? Of a sudden I find myself uncommonly fascinated.)
